Senseless violence from anyone, for any reason is unconscionable. In recent months the media outlets have been abuzz with violence perpetrated by and on our police forces across the nation. The news is just sickening and attempts by some to divide our communities is sad and frustrating.
I do not pretend to know all the details surrounding these aforementioned incidents. What I do know is that I am a business owner, a home owner, a mom, a resident of Montgomery county in Clarksville, TN, and a citizen of the United States of America. I also know that a small percentage of our national population has dedicated their lives to ensuring my safety and the safety of my family here at home. For that I am grateful.
Last week a member of our area police force, Kentucky State Trooper Joseph Cameron Ponder, was shot and killed in events that unfolded after a routine traffic stop. To have such senseless violence hit so close to home is disturbing.
I am just a small time, small business owner. When I think about what I could do and what difference I could make, my first reaction is… not much. I cannot do much alone, but if we come together as a community: a CrossFit community, a Clarksville community, a Montgomery County community, a civilian community, and a law enforcement community, we can do something.
I hope you will join us on 3-October for the We’ve Got Your Back – Trooper Ponder Tribute at CrossFit Clarksville. Our goal for this event is two-fold:
- That the greater Clarksville community would come out in a show of solidarity and support for our local police force and other associated civil servants, our fireman and our EMT
- That we can honor Trooper Ponder’s memory while helping to make the financial burden his loved ones now face a bit less burdensome.
This will be a memorial workout as is customary within the CrossFit community. Specific details to follow. Please come to workout or just to give to his family and show your support for the men and women who put it on the line everyday for our community.
Stay tuned to the Facebook Event Page for more information.
