CFC Virtuosity Class
Led by Donavan DeGrie
Capped at 12 people (excluding trainers who are observing)
Mission: To increase community virtuosity by educating members (new and old) on the foundational elements of CrossFit.
What is CrossFit? WHY do we squat below parallel? Why do we practice the Olympic lifts? Why do we recommend Paleo & Zone methods of nutrition? What is the Paleolithic diet anyway? What in the world do my coaches mean when they speak of virtuosity? Virtuosity is defined as “doing the common uncommonly well.”
Unlike risk and originality, virtuosity is elusive, supremely elusive. It is, however, readily recognized by the audience as well as by the coach and the athlete. There is a compelling tendency among novices developing any skill or art, whether learning to play the violin, write poetry, or compete in gymnastics, to quickly move past the fundamentals and on to more elaborate, more sophisticated movements, skills, or techniques.
It is true that we all desire to move past the basics into more advance and complicated movements. However, moving quickly past the foundations into more advance movements usually comes at a cost. The experts at any level know the value of mastering the foundations. Starting Nov. 19 at 1830, Donavan will lead a 12 week Virtuosity Course. The classes are free, and the goal of this class is to revisit the foundations of CrossFit and in turn achieve virtuosity in human movement. The classes will meet either on Monday or Wednesday evenings, and sign ups will open 72 hours prior to the class. The classes will be capped at 12 members of CFC. The class cap will be strictly enforced and participation will be on a first come first serve basis. These classes will not have an emphasis on working out. Instead, through lecture and PVC pipe training, Donavan will break down the points of performance for each of the fundamental movements and show how to properly execute the movements. Week 1 Topic will be the Squats. Practical exercises will include Air Squats, Front Squats, and Overhead Squats. The first class will meet on 19-November at 1830.
CFC Skills and Drills Class

Mission: To build a stronger, faster, and healthier CFC community through additional and specific accessory training.
The Skills & Drills Class is designed for the experienced CFC member that wants to dive deeper into the CF methodology, with the hopes of taking their training to another level. Participants will continue to attend regular WOD classes and attend the Skills and Drills class for additional help, learning through practical application of movement progressions. The Skills and Drills class IS NOT OPEN GYM. It is focused accessory training. This class may not be for everybody but it is open to all CFC membership. The class cap will be strictly enforced and participation will be on a first come first serve basis.
