Veteran’s Day is on Tuesday!
Tomorrow we WOD for all those who serve and have served! Please help us overflow this bin for our soldiers! List of needed items is below.
The plan is this
On 8-November we will have a Community WOD, just like we do every Saturday. This time however, there will be a special “admission fee”. This token of appreciation will be an item, any item from the Supply list below. This small token may not seem like much, but for the soldiers on the receiving end your “admission” will mean the world!
What better way to celebrate this day than to help those we celebrate for?! Because of her experiences with the USO after the death of her son Jake CFC family member, Melinda Schwallie now serves on the advisory board of the Nashville/Ft. Campbell USO. Below is Melinda’s story and one of the many reasons I know the rest of us will be able to get behind this special Veteran’s Day event.
The mission of the USO is to lift the spirits of America’s Troops and Families. This sums it up pretty well when you look at all they do for our soldiers. Unfortunately, my first personal experience with the USO came when my family was flying to Dover AFB for the Dignified Transfer of my son, SGT Jacob Schwallie. We were all still in a state of total shock and flying somewhere to greet our fallen soldier. A representative of the USO was there at the gate for our connecting flight and again when we landed in Delaware. They made sure we found our gate and had everything we needed. They were even armed with a little goodie bag of water, snacks, and a box of Girl Scout cookies. The USO does so much more to support the troops and their families than just provide snacks, but at that time in my life it was a ray of sunshine to know there were strangers who truly cared.
The USO is in desperate need of supplies which enable them to continue to provide for our soldiers through their myriad of programs both at home and abroad.
